What is Zonta International?

Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to improve the legal, political, economic, educational, health and professional status of women.

Founded in Buffalo, New York, USA, in 1919, Zonta takes its name from a Sioux Indian word meaning "honest and trustworthy."

At present there are about 1250 clubs in 67 countries.

ZI has actively supported United Nations since its foundation in 1945. It is a member of ECOSOC (United Nations Economic and Social Council) and has the official observer status in UNIFEM, UNICEF, UNESCO and European Council.
